The month of July is the best month to get the family and get out of the country. Not only is school out of session, but across the nation temperatures rise to their annual highs. So what is one to do when the heat is at its highest? Travel to the ocean, of course! With Time & Place summer vacation has never been so luxurious and comfortable! Let me take you through some of our most popular summer destinations, from the glamour of the French Riviera to the picturesque views of the Greek Isles.

France and the Riviera

Besides Paris, France’s largest population resides in the south. With more and more people visiting each year, the French Riviera is the premier luxury destination in the world. You would fail to describe the beauty of the French Riviera without mentioning infamous Cannes. Known primarily for its world-renowned film festival, Cannes is the epitome of luxury and culture. Cannes is located on the fringe of the European continent where the land meets the sea; to simply describe its immense beauty would be doing an injustice to the city and the region. With a sprawling beach bordering the south of the city, and the hills of Provence to the north, France is your perfect summer getaway location. Bring the kids or your closest friends; either way you are sure to enjoy all that this region has to offer.

Another Mediterranean village that offers the same amazing views as Cannes, unique French culture, and soothing environment is Cassis. A hidden diamond tucked between the Mediterranean Sea and the bustle of Marseille, this sea-side town is pure paradise. Cassis is certainlty the place to be if you are looking for a quiet getaway with the family. Unlike Nice or Cannes, Cassis is far less popular with traditional tourists, leaving you isolated from the mainstream tours and more closely situated to the locals that call this beautiful part of the world home. The harbor of Cassis is home to the village’s cultural center, mouthwatering cuisine, bustling fish market, and countless vessels coming in and out to make this a very exciting place to be. Grab a drink, sit back and enjoy.

The Greek Isle

Greece has been in the news a lot recently for various political, economic, and cultural hypocrisies that have plagued the country for years. But these protests and demonstrations are primarily situated in its capital of Athens. Luckily for us, the islands of Greece have remained distanced from the demonstrations of the rest of the country. Speaking from personal experience, the Greek Isles are not only the most beautiful place on earth, but also a “must-see” for all those seeking adventure in Europe. Despite the recent economic unrest, travel to Greece is just as safe and easy as it has ever been. With several islands featuring multiple properties, Time & Place has your July vacation covered.

Time & Place guests can choose between the islands of Ios, Crete, Folegandros, Mykonos, Paros, Patmos, Rhodes, and Santorini. The shear number of properties allows us to personalize and tailor our guest’s experience to their exact specifications. Although each island has its own culture and vibe, I highly suggest doing independent research to find which island best suits your family’s needs and aesthetic. In the meantime, here’s some advice about a couple of our inredible Greek options.

Located in the middle of the Adriatic Sea, Santorini is the ultimate Greek adventure. Built on top of a 60 million year-old caldera, Santorini offers 360-degree views of the crystal clear waters that surround the island. Having been to Santorini, I can personally guarantee a loss of breath upon seeing this gorgeous cityscape. The island is like nothing else on earth, boasting some of the most famous red, black, and white sand-beaches in the world. Each day in Santorini offers a new adventure to be explored. Nightclubs, beaches, amazing restaurants, and recreational vehicles are available to please all members of your family. But if you are looking for a romantic getaway, Santorini couldn’t be more perfect. Dubbed with the most beautiful sunset in the world, Santorini offers numerous bars and restaurants to watch the sun slowly sinks beneath the waterline. You’ll know the sunset is complete when a flash of green explodes off the horizon; it is truly a sight to beheld.

The southern most island of Greece is also the largest of the Greek isles. Crete is home to some of the world’s best beaches and equally refreshing cuisine. Once known as the center of the Minoan civilization (c. 2700-1420 BC), Crete is littered with ancient ruins, constantly being unearthed across the island. In fact, it is not uncommon to be eating at a relatively new establishment only to find that you are sitting on a site with recorded history older than the Bible. Actually, if it wasn’t for the picturesque beaches and amazing landscape, the history of Crete is enough to bring any world traveler to its shores. The reason so many history buffs flock to the shores of Crete is because the island is regarded as the earliest recorded civilization in Europe. It is believed that many aspects of Homer’s The Odyssey originated on the island.

Regardless of your vacation intentions, Time & Place is sure to have what you are looking for. I’ve highlighted two of our amazing locations in Europe, but this is only the beginning of the incredible locales that are ideal for a summer vacation.
